Affordable Studio Light For A Portrait Shooter?

I’m a 17-year-old photographer that has little money to work with. However, my parents don’t mind investing some of their money toward my photography. (as long as the price is reasonable)
So here’s the thing: I’m a portrait shooter, and I work with natural light because that’s all I have. I want to start working with studio lighting. (preferably portable) What kind of lighting would work well with what I shoot? (continuous, strobes, etc.) Is there a specific product you’d recommend?
Here’s a link to my flickr to give you a better idea of what and how I shoot:

What Recommendations Do You Have For Basic Studio Lighting?

I am a relatively new amature photographer that wants to purchase fairly portable lighitng for portraiture, product work, and large group photos. I will have occasional need for posed sports portraits. I’m looking for reliable medium quality equipment that I can travel (primarily by car) that’s affordable and will support me as I move into more serious photography (portraiture). I plan to start with a basic set of 3 units (main, fill, and hair or backdrop) and the set should be flexible that at least 2 of the units can play any role needed in the shoot. Kits are also acceptable. I DO NOT need battery based equipment, but a battery option would be a bonus.
