I’m a photographer just starting my own business. I’ve done quite a bit of research about copyrights & all of my findings tell me that I, as the photographer & artist, own the rights to any photos that I take, even if I’m hired to take them. I’m of the understanding that unless I have a signed contract with my client stating that I will give the up my rights to the finished product I will own them forever & can do with them as I wish (ie: using them in my portfolio, for advertising, etc.).
However, my friend knows a couple that hired a photographer to take their wedding photos who asked them to sign a release for him to be able to sell any pictures that he took, they declined to sign. About a year later the wife discovered that he had sold her pictures to a magazine. They sued the photographer & won $50,000.
My question is..why? Do they own rights to the pictures because they are in them? Am I wrong in believing that I’m the artist & I own my art even if I’m hired?

I am an avid photographer and already know a lot about photography. I don’t own a DSLR. I need one, preferably with a faster shutter speed due to the fact that I mostly shoot sports (high school newspaper)
I need some suggestions, I’m fairly new, but I would like be able to put the best overall product out there.

I’m 13 years old and I really want a semi-professional camera. The thing is my parents are not going to spend more than about $350. I don’t want a little regular silver or pink digital camera like most teens have. I want one kind of like the professionals have but not as expensive and as fancy. I’ll list some ideas I had below but I’m not sure if they are good I need some expert advice or at least advice from someone who has that camera and knows what they’re talking about.

I paid my wedding photographer $1000 to take our wedding pictures and make an album for us. It took him until 3.5 months after the wedding to get the pictures to us, but he sent the pictures and mats loose in a box along with the album, and told us to put the album together ourselves. The pictures REEKED of smoke (like a mixture of cigarette smoke and just smoke smoke). They have been sitting on my counter airing out for a week now and they still smell bad.
I emailed the photographer and told him how upset I was, and he was very apologetic. He offered to make things right for us and even refund us for the shipping. The album he gave us was poor quality and ugly to boot, so we told him we’re just going to have someone else put an album together for us.
He offered to put the album together for us (I guess the last few brides he delt with long-distance wanted to put their albums together themselves, so he assumed I’d want to to), and was very apologetic.
I had been waiting to tip him until I received the finished product, but now I just don’t know. I’m stuck with loose pictures that reek and no album, but the pictures themselves are lovely. I feel bad for him because he seemed genuinely sorry for the mishap.
Should I tip him or not? If so, how much????

What is the best digital camera i can get for under $400? i need something that can take good quality pictures because i am going to be using for photography. i want something that has more than 8 megapixels and can focus well. i don’t want to spend more than $400 right now, but if you have any recommendations that are a little more than that let me know. i am just looking for a good camera.
