Which Of These Two Cameras Should I Buy?

The Cannon Digital Rebel XTi (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?…
Or the Nikon D40x (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?…
I will be using it primarily for close up’s, nature shots, landscapes, action shots of my friends and I snowboarding, and general family usage.
If there are any photographers that can help me out with this desision I would really appreciate it.
Also, what do you think of the lenses that come with these cameras? Are they worth buying or should I buy the camera body and a different lense?

the debate between nikons and canons is a religeous one, so I won’t bother with that. I have a d40 and would recomend it highly, but I dunno about a rebel. after quickly skimming the specifications, the only difference I noticed was the card format (an advantage for the d40x which uses sdhc) if you want to do real close ups, your going to need a macro lens, but the 18-55mm kit lens on the d40 is pretty good for everything else. I think your links are broken so I couldn’t see what the rebel kit lens was. read this if you really want to know:http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamer…
    and this toohttp://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.h…
and from that same site a review of the d40http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm

I think alot of it comes down to cost. here’s 2 decent reviews to better educate yourself with.

Of the 2, I’d personally go for the Nikon D40, as it’s basically the “little brother” (or sister, if you prefer) to the D200 + D300, etc.
On the other hand, for the purposes you said you’re looking at getting it for…. and you just want a good all round lens, rather than a small collection I’d save myself the money and get one of Fuji’s “super-zoom” range of camera’s – the S700 (S5700 in Europe), S6000fd (S6500fd in Europe)* + S9100 (S9600) being just as good as an SLR (except you can’t change the lens)… manually adjustable lens (on the S6000fd + S9100 at least), and have lots of “scene modes” that can set the camera up for the situations you suggest (e.g. Landscapes, Snow, etc).
I just bought a S6500fd, which is an extremely good camera, like an SLR, yet costs several times less.

Here’s a few shots taken on my S6500fd (only had it since Thursday lunchtime): http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/j…

I would get the Cannon one. I have a Cannon and they are quality cameras. I looked at the 2 and the Cannon looked better.

Get the D40 body (not the D40x) and the 18-200mm lens. That combo should cover 99% of what you shoot.
